Birthday Lasagna

This recipe cannot be made in a hurry - it's an exception that should only be made once a year as it's so time-consuming - but it's delish.

Serves: 8 Prep Time: 2hrs

Ingredients

1lb sweet Italian ground sausage 1lb ground beef 1 cup chopped onion 1 lg can crushed tomatoes 1 jar tomato sauce 1 can tomato paste 1tbsp of each of the following: Rosemary, Thyme, Garlic Powder, Black Pepper 1/2 bunch fresh chopped Parsley 1/2 bunch fresh chopped Basil leaves 1lg container of ricotta cheese Oregano Lasagna noodles (no bake or regular) Grated mozzarella cheese Grated parmigiana cheese

Directions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees

  2. Saute the sausage beef and onion until browned and the onion is translucent.

  3. Drain.

  4. Place back in the pan and add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, paste, parsley and rosemary.(Reserve some of the tomato sauce for the bottom of the dish)

  5. Bring to a boil then simmer on low for 1 hour.

  6. Meanwhile mix the Ricotta cheese with more herbs and oregano.

  7. Add a layer of the reserved tomato sauce to the bottom of the dish.

  8. Start the layering process: noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella & parmigiana, ricotta cheese mix

  9. Repeat until the dish is full and the sauce is on the top.

  10. Bake at 375 for an hour (depending on how deep your pan or dish is).

  11. Remove and sprinkle some grated mozzarella & parmigiana on top.

  12. Put back in the oven for 10 minutes

  13. Add more mozarella when done if desired.

Enjoy with friends & family!
